Community Involvement
TigerTel prides itself on making community involvement a priority. Our responsibility to be good corporate citizens and good neighbours motivates our commitment to the communities in which we live and work. Highlighted are the national, regional and local projects we support:
-
TigerTel is proud to be the Title Sponsor of the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar’s Charity Dragon Boat Festival. Each year in August, staff from our 13 locations come together to participate in the Dragon Boat races under the name “Blue Tigers.” While the team enjoys a day of paddling with fellow employees, family and friends, the driving reason to get out each and every year is the fundraising for the 2 great charities we support as an organization. The efforts we put forth directly benefit the Halton Children’s Aid Society and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

Our London office participates in Jesse’s Journey Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Jesse's Journey is a partnership of science and families dedicated to the discovery of treatment and cure of Duchenne muscular dystrophy and other genetic disorders - because parents should not outlive their children.
-
The Nanaimo branch supports the Rotary Club of Nanaimo ‘Daybreak’ in their annual golf tournament. They raise approximately eight thousand dollars annually.

TigerTel Red Deer has been providing ‘services in kind’ to the Crisis Centre formally the Sexual Assault Centre, for the past 17 years. TigerTel operators simply beep in and out of the call to see if the volunteer needs assistance. Calls can also be transferred to another person without us losing contact with the caller, one of the reasons the line is so successful. This service is provided 24 hours a day 365 days a year. For years a minimal fee was charged and TigerTel had donated between $25,000 and $45,000 worth of ‘services-in-kind’ annually. TigerTel has also contributed to the agency through volunteering at various events.

The Oshawa branch sponsors the Oshawa Girls Hockey Association and is a member of the Durham Regional Manufactures Association.

Every November/December the Vancouver Branch hosts a food drive for the local Food Bank which helps feed up to 9000 residents every week in the Greater Vancouver Area. In December 2009, the Branch donated $1500 and 21 boxes of food.
For the past four years the Branch has also raised funds, donated items and walked in the annual BC SPCA Paws for a Cause walk – because pets are people too. The annual event is hosted in 36 locations province-wide and last year raised 1.1 million dollars for animals in need of care, shelter and love.
The Vancouver Branch also participates in the annual Jeans Day to raise funds to support he BC Children’s Hospital. This past April we raised over $200 through selling jeans buttons and a bake sale, as well as donating over 140 items of gently used clothing to the BC Children’s Auxiliary which raises funds for the Foundation through sales in its Thrift Store.
